FIVE STAR GUIDES
Private Robben Island Tour

Tour Overview
Robben Island, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a global beacon for resistance against oppression. At various times in its history a penal colony, a leper colony and finally a site of political detention during the apartheid era, the island has been visited by countless world leaders over the years, further deepening its status as an iconic symbol of the triumph of hope against adversity.

What To Expect
On this tour, you’ll be taken from the mainland by ferry and then taken on a private tour of the island to areas that the conventional public tour does not have access, such as the limestone quarry where Mandela, Mbeki and other leaders were forced to work breaking up stones. You’ll be guided personally by a former political prisoner as well as a Five Star Guide, who will provide context where needed to the former prisoner’s account.
